Rain or shine, the Fleming Castle Museum will celebrate Chief Tuccamirgan on Sunday, November 8th. The Lenape tribe and its Chief greeted early settlers with friendship and aided settlement of the Flemington area. Returning to the Castle will be historian and descendent of the Sand Hill People, Beverly Friend. She will share her knowledge of Lenape culture beginning at 1pm at Flemington's Borough Hall located on Court St. behind the Fire House. After the talk, take a few steps to the Fleming Castle where volunteers will serve Early American refreshments. Guests can tour the Castle and also browse and purchase fine Native American jewelry and other items from Ms. Friend's collection.
Not to forget the youngsters, the 2:30 to 3:30 children's hour at the Castle will prove to be a fun time. Bring the kids and let them enjoy face painting and the games and crafts of long ago. All are welcome to tour the charming 250 year old house from 1 to 4pm. The Fleming Castle is located at 5 Bonnell St. in Flemington and is open every second Sunday. Scouts and group tours are welcome. Reservations for Ms. Friend are requested but not required. Call 782-8235.
