Samuel Fleming House   ---   5 Bonnell Street, Flemington, New Jersey  ---   Tuccamirgan Day 2010

Chief Tuccamirgan Day 2010

Samuel Fleming House Museum is sponsoring the Third Annual Chief Tuccamirgan Day - Saturday, October 9th 2010. This year some events will be held in different locations.

The Day will begin at 9:30 am at the entrance of Tuccamirgan Park, Bonnell Street, with a guided walk through the woods, identifying trees and their characteristics, the Shade Tree Commission, chaired by Nancy Benson, has planted many appropriate trees the past few years. Under Rob Ozimek's direction members of the Public Works Department spent many hours maintaining this lovely area. As participants exit the Park, they should cross Bonnell Street to #58 Bonnell, the grave site of Chief Tuccamirgan.

The Chief was buried in the Case Family cemetery due to his friendship with early settler John Case. The 1925 commemorative marker reads "Erected by the Citizens of Flemington as a Tribute to the Friend of the White Man"

It is in part due to that kindness and friendship that we celebrate his life and his example.

The next event will take place at the Samuel Fleming House, 5 Bonnell Street. The House and Garden will be open from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

In the museum, the Garden Guild's Flower Show will reflect local sites as well as the spirit of Tuccamirgan. There will be no house tours Saturday, as each room will display original arrangements by members of the Garden Guild. Members will be available to answer questions.

As in past special events, Kelli Dochterman will do her usual palate pleasing job with the Buffet table. Lunch will be available from 11:30 to 1:30 and have a Native American "Flavor." (That does not include hot dogs, of course.) Food tickets can be purchased in two places: at the #5 Bonnell Street/Directory entrance to the Garden and at the lower garden entrance from the Municipal Parking Lot, on Court Street. Food tickets will be required, however, there is no charge for any other part of the days' celebration.

Parking is permissible on Bonnell Street and the Court Street Municipal Public parking lot, at the rear of the Garden.

From 11:00 to 2:00 there will be games and music in the Garden.

At 2:00 the Dvoor Farm will host "Tuccamirgan, Tea and Talk," a Round Table discussion and refreshments. With four experts discussing the life style of the native American; influence on the settling of our area, it should be a lively discussion. Seating space is limited so reservations are suggested. Please call Carmen Grimes at 908-782-8235 or Edna Pedrick at 908-782-4049. Dvoor Farm is located at the Route 12 Circle. There is ample parking on the Dvoor Farm grounds.

You are cordially invited to come and enjoy Chief Tuccamirgan Day and the warmth and friendship it represents.
